A Brief History of UTC

rick_smThe story begins with Rick Shepard. Rick and his wife and business partner, Jill, founded Urban Tree Care, Inc. in Santa Clarita 10 years ago. Rick started his career early in Santa Barbara in 1981, and worked with various tree care companies over the years. He went on to work for other widely known companies such as Davey Tree, Arborcare and Golden Bear Arborists.

historyThen in 1999, he and Jill took out a second mortgage on their home and, with three employees, went into business for themselves.

Urban Tree became a TCIA member in 2001.

Fast forward to 2016. Urban Tree Care now has three offices, Los Angeles, San Diego and Inland Empire, a total of 54 employees and 8 certified arborists on staff.

In June Of 2010 UTC became the second company in Los Angeles County to be accredited by the TCIA and the fourth in San Diego. Urban Tree Care strives to give the best service, and continues to move forward within the tree care industry.

Disaster Response

Kathy Anderson / The Times-Picayune Hurricane Gustav wind blew trees over throughout the state. This house on Park Blvd.in Baton Rouge had a tree crash through the roof. While streets will be cleared quickly, homeowners are left to figure out how to get their property cleared.

UTC has been involved with the disaster recovery clean up work in New Orleans and Florida from hurricanes Katrina and Wilma.

Additionally, UTC assisted in the removal of thousands of dead trees in Lake Arrowhead after the bark beetle infestation and wildfires of 2004.
